The Kentucky Mule

Kentucky Mule

Glass: Copper mug

Garnish: Lime wheel and mint sprig

Directions & Ingredients

In copper mug add:

  • Ice (fill ½ way)

  • 2 oz. Bourbon

  • 0.5 oz. Fresh lime juice

Stir for 15 seconds or so

  • Top off with Ginger beer

For Jules’ version of the Kentucky Mule, the twist is all in the whiskey. Instead of reaching for a standard bottle, try this homemade infused whiskey. It adds layers of cozy, spiced fruit flavor that make the cocktail really shine.

Ingredients

  • 24 oz jar (or similar glass container with lid)

  • 1 star anise

  • 1 pear, sliced

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 apple, sliced

Instructions

  1. Add the star anise, pear slices, cinnamon sticks, and apple slices into a clean jar.

  2. Fill the jar with whiskey, making sure the fruit and spices are fully submerged.

  3. Seal tightly and store in a cool, dark place.

  4. Let the infusion rest anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, tasting along the way. The longer it sits, the deeper and more complex the flavors become.

    • In Jules’ case? She let hers go for a few years—and the result was incredible.

Tip

Strain out the fruit and spices once you’ve reached your desired flavor to prevent it from becoming overly tannic or woody, unlike what Jules did
